Custom SNMP Polling for QoS and Signal Level Monitoring
Live demo: SNMP polling for QoS utilization and transceiver light-level monitoring
This demo comes from a real monitoring problem: the default numbers were technically correct, but operationally misleading. On some microwave links, standard interface polling reported the physical port speed instead of the true shaped capacity, so a fully loaded link could appear only lightly used. By polling the QoS counters directly, I could show the throughput that actually mattered. I used the same idea for optics, polling Rx light levels over time so slow degradation could be seen before a site visit finally happened to catch it.
